A Porte-de-Couchere Creates an Imposing Image
This house was designed for a client with a clear picture of the image they wanted for their
home. The porches, porte, gables, and roofline created an elevation that could have been
built yesterday or 100 years ago. That is the goal in many of our designs- that timeless
quality without the sense of "disneyland" fakery.

Intimacy on a
spacious waterfront
site.
This house was designed for a site of
the Patuxent River in Calvert County for
a young family. Besides maximizing
water views, we sought to orient the
family areas not only to the river, but
also to a formal garden within a walled
courtyard and, beyond, a playing field
for family activity.

A Home With European Influences
This home was designed around an octagonal stair turret. It fits the sloping site, with
it's 180 degree wooded views , as if it had been placed there centuries ago. The rear
elevation shows a comfortable balance of unity and variety. The plan is very unique.

A Classic Williamsburg With a Twist
This client wanted a historically accurate Williamsburg home, but the site and some of their
programmatic requirements led us to propose this design. It's front is traditional (modeled
after a specific home), but the rear is punctuated with a bell-shaped roof over the master
bedroom- the image borrowed from an actual outbuilding from the Virginia town that bears
the style's name. The L-shape wraps around a pool and classically shaped deck.
A Classic Farmhouse with a Contemporary Plan
This site, formerly farmland, has an orientation to the adjacent preserved, rolling
countryside. The tower in the great room and master bedroom commands incredible views.
The front elevation is in a subdued, but elegant farmhouse image, reflecting the clients
taste and lifestyle.
